Our Utility Assistance & Financial Aid Program is staffed with compassionate individuals who understand that it can be difficult to ask for help in the midst of a financial crisis. If you are a St. Joseph County resident and are facing any of the following difficulties, we may be able to help:
- Disconnection notice from a utility provider
- Utilities are currently disconnected
- Household disaster such as a house fire or flood
- Personal crisis such as a death in the family or fleeing from domestic abuse
For more information, please call The Family Resource Center at
574.233.9471 ext. 2206 and leave us a message.
Every $1000 can help 7 families in St. Joseph County. On average, The Family Resource Center receives 95 calls per week requesting assistance, but can only help around 5 families.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
The Walter A. Meyer Food Pantry provides sustenance in your time of need.
Due to COVID-19, the food pantry will look a little different. Food will be pre-boxed and given to individuals based off the size of their families. A limited number of clients will be allowed in the center at a single time, and they will be asked wear masks and sanitize their hands prior to entering the facility. Individuals may use the food pantry once every 30 days and no more than 6 times per year.
Please bring a picture ID for all household members age 18 and over, birth certificates for all household members age 17 and under, social security cards for all household members and proof of address.
