Community Garden

Deliciously Home Grown!

Community garden

Part of the local Unity Garden initiative, our garden complements numerous goals of the Family Resource Center. Not only is it open to all food pantry clients as a healthy alternative, but it serves as a place to step outside the box and get to know neighbors, regardless of need. We learn new ways to kill fungi without harsh chemicals and how to cook mustard greens. The Kroc Center is a place for wellness, so start here by sampling our home grown goodness!

We started a small garden in the summer of 2009, and many garden ghosts helped water and weed it. More than twice the previous year’s size, our 2010 garden included everything our pantry clients asked for: collard greens, Swiss chard, cucumber, onions, potatoes, peas, green beans, cabbage, kale, and more!

The 2011 garden was again a success, thanks to the help of numerous volunteer groups.

Next year's gardens are going to be raised beds, accessible to all the programs and members.
