A Breath of Fresh Air!
In the area of our outdoor amenities, you will find a large boulder with a plaque in honor of Alonzo Watson, Jr. This is the previous site of the Alonzo Watson, Jr. Park and it is important to keep his memory and legacy alive in the minds of all those who visit here. As the Director of the Housing Authority of South Bend, from October 1980 until his death in October 1995, Mr. Watson was passionate about serving others and empowering the underserved so they become self-sufficient, life-long learners and live wisely.
Synthetic Turf Athletic Field
Enjoy a game or practice on our Athletic Field, which is designed for a variety of sports including soccer, flag football, lacrosse, marching band and youth programs. A synthetic turf playing surface and lighting system allow the Kroc fields to be used in wet seasons and at night. Spectators will also enjoy the experience with seating areas that get you close to the action on the field.
Outdoor Playground Space
Play is a crucial factor in the overall well-being of children. The Kroc Center has two outdoor playground areas. One area is for the younger child, focusing on children under 6 years of age. The other space is near our athletic field and will be designed for youth up to 11 years of age.
The Kroc Center provides space for the community to get involved in growing vegetables for other members of the community. These raised-bed gardens are a perfect place to come and use your green thumb skills to help others in need. Want to help out in the garden? The community garden page has all the information on how you can get your hands dirty.
